Our trauma and orthopaedics service is an area of surgery which treats injuries and conditions of the musculoskeletal system including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves.
We offer a full range of services for both adults and children at our hospitals in Scunthorpe and Grimsby.
In addition to our emergency work (unplanned operations), we also provide numerous consultant, nurse and physio-led clinics. We also have a plaster room at Scunthorpe and Grimsby hospitals, which provide a specialised service to patients requiring plaster casts, braces and splints.
Our team works as a multi disciplinary department and co-ordinates services with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, rheumatology and orthotics. We have a dedicated inpatient ward and day ward at both Grimsby and Scunthorpe hospitals, and a wide range of routine (planned) orthopaedic surgical procedures are available at Goole hospital, including knee, hip and shoulder replacements, and treatments of sports injuries.
Overview
Our services are tailored around individuals and we consider every patient to be as important as the next. Our consultants and their teams have extensive expertise and experience. From research involvement to cutting edge technology in operations their skills and knowledge span many areas. Our aim is to provide an efficient, friendly and high-quality service for all our patients.
In our outpatients department we see new patients who are referred by their GP and also review patients on an ongoing basis. We review patients following operations and following A&E attendances.
We also see patients in our day surgery, where you can have your procedure and be discharged the same day. In the case of orthopaedics this includes anything from lumps and bumps to the shoulder or ankle, and such things as knee arthroscopies where we insert a camera into the knee. When you are admitted to the unit you will be assigned to a named nurse who will, as far as possible, look after you during your stay.
Why choose us?
- Survival outcomes of hip fractures within the top quarter in the UK
- Low rates of orthopaedic infection in our joint replacement patients
- Low infection rates by segregation of our joint replacement patients
- Lengths of hospital stay below the national average.
We offer outreach services to various locations across the region to aid patients that do not wish to travel into hospital for their clinic appointments.
