Our staff assess and provide patients with orthoses (appliances) which fit onto the body to help problems caused by disability, illness or deteriorating conditions. Examples of these items are calipers, splints, insoles to fit inside shoes, specialist footwear and supportive corsets.
People referred to the orthotics service may be seen by a podiatrist, an occupational therapist or one of our visiting orthotists.
Our administration staff are available on a daily basis to receive patients, deal with telephone enquiries, register all patients on the database, and arrange the ordering of orthoses.
Postiche (wig) service
The way we provide our postiche (wig) service has changed, for the better. Previously patients who required a wig, following chemotherapy or due to a condition that causes hair loss, were seen in a clinic within our hospitals. Now patients referred to the service are instead be invited to a local salon to have an enhanced experience, with more choice and without the stress of attending a clinical setting.
There’s no change to the referral process but instead of being seen at the hospital, patients will be provided with a voucher and they can choose which of the three salons we’ve partnered with to attend: Angela Smith’s wigs and hair replacement solutions (Grimsby), Rituals Hair Lab Ltd (Scotter) and Godiva Hair Loss & Wig Specialists (Epworth).
