We have two neonatal intensive care units, which specialise in the care of ill and/or premature newborn babies, one at Grimsby hospital and one at Scunthorpe. We work collaboratively within the Yorkshire and Humber neonatal network to help ensure baby’s care needs are met irrespective of gestation. Whilst some babies may need to be born at other centres due to gestation or complex health needs, we aim to get babies closer to home at the earliest opportunity.
Our units operate at level 2 provision caring for sick and preterm babies, from 27 weeks gestation for singleton pregnancy and 28 weeks for multiple pregnancy. They provide care at special care, high dependency, intensive care and transitional care levels.
The unit at Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital has three intensive care cots one high dependency cot and eight special care cots, and with an additional four transitional care cots located within the maternity wards.
At Scunthorpe the NICU has two intensive care cots, two high dependency care and six special care cots with an additional four transitional care cots located on Ward 26.
As a parent or carer you will have an important and invaluable part of your baby’s care so we have an open visiting policy enabling you to be with your baby at all times, day and night. Brothers and sisters are encouraged to visits so they get to know the baby too. Parents are invited to you stay with their baby either in a parent flat or by the cot side.
