About the Poppy Team
We are a small team of Midwives and Midwifery Support Workers who cover the Cleethorpes’ postcode area of DN35. We will care for you throughout your pregnancy, labour and following the birth of your baby.
A Government paper produced in 2016 entitled Better Births stated that when having a baby, you should receive care that is safe and personalised; that puts your needs at the heart of your care.
Our aim is to provide continuity of care that enables you to develop a relationship of trust with your midwife and reduce the number of midwives you see during your care.
This is a safer way of providing care and has been shown to improve outcomes for mothers and babies.
We look forward to meeting you and being part of your journey with you.

During pregnancy
At your first appointment (booking) you will meet your named midwife and the aim is that she or her buddy midwife will build a relationship with you in order to meet your needs throughout your pregnancy journey.
If the named midwife or the buddy midwife are unavailable, then you will see another midwife from the Poppy Team.
If you need to see a Consultant Obstetrician or a Specialist Midwife during your pregnancy, we will work alongside them to provide your care.
Labour
A midwife known to you from The Poppy Team (ideally your named or buddy midwife) will provide your care during labour. This includes homebirth, hospital birth and planned Caesarean birth.
In unforeseen circumstances this may not be possible; however, every attempt will be made to ensure that during your labour this is achieved
After your baby is born (postnatal care)
Once your baby is born The Poppy Team midwives will continue to care for you and your baby by either visiting you at home or at a Children’s Centre.
You will remain under the care of the team for a minimum of 10 days after the birth of your baby and until you are both fit for discharge to the care of your health visitor and GP.
Further information
The Poppy Team will provide “Meet the Team” events and Antenatal Education sessions which will give you the opportunity to meet all the midwives and the
midwifery support worker within the team. For further information please speak to your midwife.
There is a Facebook page which provides extra information that may be of interest
to you during your pregnancy and after your baby is born: “NLaG Maternity”. This
includes the “Ask A Midwife” messaging service for all non-urgent questions/requests for information.
There is also information you can access via our Local Maternity System page.
You have a voice

- Every woman on the maternity pathway has a chance to have her voice heard
about the service she is receiving through an MVP - Every MVP is supported to engage in true co-production of maternity services
For more information or if you would like to contribute, please email [email protected] or visit their Facebook page: “North and North East Lincolnshire MVP”.
