Are you interested in taking part in a marathon or skydive to raise money for your local hospital and community services? If so, we want to hear from you!
Whether it’s the Hull 10k or the Hull half-marathon in June, the London Big Half or a skydive in Hibaldstow, The Health Tree Foundation – Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust’s official charity – has a whole host of events you can take part in.
Danielle Rhodes, 26 from Cleethorpes, a Healthcare Assistant at Grimsby hospital, took part in the Grimsby 10k last year to raise money for The Pink Rose Suite – a dedicated breast unit at Grimsby hospital. She knows first-hand how worthwhile the experience is.
She said: “I have never been a runner in my life but I saw HTF had advertised the Grimsby 10K and I thought what better way to support my work department – The Pink Rose Suite – than to raise money for them. I was a little nervous signing up for this at first as I didn’t know if I could run all that way.
“Well, all the worry was for absolutely nothing as people walk, jog, run or dance the 10k! I had done some training but only maybe once or twice a week for this. I did 5k runs and then my last couple of runs two weeks, I did two 10K runs to understand the distance of this and it felt amazing! I just kept telling myself I could do it and I did!”
Danielle started raising money around three months before the run and by the day of the race, she’d drummed up more than £500 in donations. More people donated on the day too when they saw from her HTF vest what she was raising money for.
Danielle added: “When I passed the finish line, there was no better feeling than knowing I had done this for a good cause. Raising money for The Pink Rose Suite was something really special to me. Working on there gave me a special bond with all my patients and I know what an amazing impact the smallest donation can do for patients visiting the department.”
